Rachael Helmore

Rachael Helmore was an artist, writer and curator living and working on Durramurragal, Dharug and Gadigal land. Art making for her was about connecting with herself, with others and with the world around her. Rapid observational drawing was central to her practice for many years and was a process she often returned to. For her, mark making without looking at the page/glass/surface kicked her inner critic to the curb and reduced the space between eye, mind and hand.

Helmore joined Artspace in 2022 as Associate Curator, Residencies, Learning and Outreach. With over ten years’ experience working in public art museums, artist run spaces, art schools, auction houses and online spaces, Rachael was dedicated to creating connections between artists, organisations and diverse audiences. She held a Bachelor of Fine Arts & Arts (2013) from the University of New South Wales with majors in Printmaking and Sociology/Anthropology, and a Masters of Art Curating from the University of Sydney (2019). She had several positions across education, curatorial, research, gallery management and visitor engagement at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art, Scratch Art Space and Christie’s, London.
