Join artist Emily Hunt for a talk and marionette performance in the exhibition Emily Hunt: The Grotto at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.

Hunt will entrance you as she harnesses the uncanny power of her marionettes, transporting them into a space she calls ‘the imaginal realm’. Through these marionettes, she’ll recount the lives of the occult figures featured in The Grotto, including art critic James Smith (1820–1910), violinist Leila Waddell (1880–1932) and artist Rosaleen Norton (1917–79).

Hunt will also talk about her abiding interest in ceremonial magic, ornament and the grotesque as revealed in the watercolour drawings, etchings, murals and ceramic works on display.
