For fifteen years Chicks on Speed have forged an extraordinary career across music, fashion, art, styling and design with a holistic, fluid and dynamic approach to sophisticated, DIY creative endeavour. They have performed at major festivals around the world, released numerous recordings including celebrated tracks such as ‘GLAMOUR GIRL’, ‘We Don’t Play Guitars’ and ‘Art Rules’ and exhibited widely at a range of institutions internationally, including a survey exhibition project in 2010 at Dundee Contemporary Arts that gave rise to the monograph Chicks on Speed: Don’t art, fashion, music.

SCREAM
adds a new element into the Chicks on Speed Gesamtkunstwerk – an interactive app developed in residency at ZKM Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany that enables audience members to live compose and mix audio visual scenes projected into the gallery space. Unleashed through live performance on opening night (13 March, 6pm), SCREAM features a giant multifaceted sculptural object upon which Chicks on Speed project a visually chaotic collage. This sculptural structure functions as a stage, a canvas and a playable musical instrument both activated through Chicks on Speed’s extraordinary array of sounds, rhythms, words and image and ‘performed’ by visitors with ipads.

Following a residency at Hobart’s MONA FOMA festival Chicks on Speed are artists in residence at Artspace through February and March 2013. In addition to SCREAM, Chicks on Speed are presenting a collaborative project with New Zealand designer Lisa Walker from 28 February to 22 April 2013 at City Gallery Wellington.
