Rev. Tau’alofa Anga’aelangi

Rev. Tau’alofa Anga’aelangi is a Tongan activist and ordained minister in the Uniting Church in Australia. She believes that protest is a way of life, especially for those of us who have always lived on the fringes. In Tonga, her family is subjected to the tu’a (commoners) class, and in her current location, she is a woman of colour whose existence has always been a struggle to be seen, heard, and taken seriously. Her activism and pushback have taken years to find expression through poetry, talanoa, preaching, reading, and writing against systems that favour the colonisers, anthropocentrism, capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy, and colorism. She is a co-founder, with Rev. Dr. Katalina Tahaafe-Williams, of the Black Lives Matter webinar, which focuses on its implications in the Australian context and its significance for people of faith.
In her ministry, Rev. Anga’aelangi serves as the Uniting Church Tertiary Chaplain and as a professional adjunct staff member with Charles Sturt University, located on the unceded lands of the Biripi people. Her heritage traces to Holonga, Tukulalo, Vava'u, Fakakakai, Holopeka, Koulo, Pangai Ha'apai, and Pea, Tongatapu.
