Julie Ewington

Julie Ewington is a curator, writer and broadcaster, based in Sydney. Over five decades Julie has explored work by living artists, especially women , and focusing on Australia and the Asia Pacific. Recent curatorial projects include Juanita McLauchlan: gii mara-bula/Heart Hand-also (Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, 2023). Writing includes major books —Del Kathryn Barton (2014) and Fiona Hall (2005)—and numerous catalogue essays; she edits publications for Australian and international art museums, such as National Gallery Singapore; and writes for journals including Art Monthly and Australian Book Review

Julie was a contributing curator to the Asia-Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art at Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art between 1996-2012; between 2001-2014 she headed Australian Art at QAGOMA. In 2014 Julie received the Australia Council’s Emeritus Medal (Visual Arts Board).  She is currently Chair, 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Sydney and a Board member at Samstag Museum of Art, Adelaide.
