Jas Chambers

Jas Chambers works at the intersection of nature, science, business and policy. Throughout her career she has challenged the barriers to coordinated and collaborative efforts that can transform society and the economy. For 21 years she worked with many thousands of scientists, students, leaders and executives globally, shaping education opportunities, building research partnerships and funding and creating cultures for the STEM disciplines and workforce to thrive. At the Bureau of Meteorology Jas led international science diplomacy and global and national science relationships, including with the World Meteorological Organization, and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission.
As a country Victorian who grew up on the Murray River, and of Australian-Tongan heritage, she has directed her career to accelerate positive change in Australia and the Pacific being acutely aware that good governance, education, research and the development of new knowledge contributes to democracy and prosperity that serves communities.
In 2021 recognising a crucial gap in Australia’s governance and coordination for Ocean, Jas co-founded Ocean Decade Australia, a national non-governmental organisation with a focus on sharing scientific and indigenous knowledge and the expertise of ocean users while cultivating a culture of sharing, respect and action across all sectors and parts of society.
