Justene Williams and has been a practising artist for over 20 years. She is well-known for her large scale live works, video performances, installations and sculptures. Williams’ performance installations celebrate the avant-garde dream of the ‘total artwork’, while deconstructing it with the female body — domesticating and situating it in the reality and absurdity of now.

Williams has exhibited in local and international galleries and institutions including the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; Kunstlerhaus, Vienna; St Paul St AUT Gallery, Auckland; Christchurch Art Gallery; Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne; Kampnagel Hamburg; the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; La Centrale Powerhouse, Quebec; Shanthi Road Gallery, Bangalore; Institute of Modern Art, Brisbane; and the Gallery of Modern Art | Queensland Art Gallery, Brisbane. Williams has also participated in the 2002 and 2010 Adelaide Biennials.

Recent career highlights include The Curtain Breathed Deeply, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art; The 20th Sydney Biennale The future is here — it’s just unevenly distributed; Dancing Umbrellas, Heide Museum, Melbourne; 2015 Performa 15 Biennale - Australian Pavilions Without Walls, New York; Pleasure and Reality, National Gallery of Victoria; No Mind, Sarah Cottier Gallery, Sydney; The Curtain Breathed Deeply, Monash Museum of Art, Melbourne; Right Here Right Now, Penrith Regional Gallery and Lewers Bequest; Disco Dome, Sydney Festival 2015; and VIDEO FOREVER 19: Video Birds, Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris.
