Julie Louise Bacon

Julie Louise Bacon is an artist, curator and writer. She has exhibited widely internationally, presenting site-responsive works, performances and installations in contexts including Golden Thread Gallery, Belfast; Broken Hill Art Exchange; Eyelevel Gallery, Nova Scotia; White Cube, London; and Centre for Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv. Her research explores the ways in which physical, social and mental spaces are shaped by one another, through time, including the forces of technology, archives and myth. Bacon has played an active role in arts development and policy through executive, directorship and curatorial posts in art centres in the UK and Canada. Recently she curated the international festival Töne: A Meeting of Sound and Light (2014) and delivered a three-year consultancy with Leeuwarden European Capital of Culture 2018 as Artistic Director of Embassy for Water. She has published widely on contemporary art and cultural theory, and holds a PhD from the University of Ulster. Originally from Newcastle upon Tyne, England, she is currently based in Sydney where she is a Lecturer in studio practice and curating at UNSW Art & Design and a researcher at NIEA.
