Artspace’s Board of Directors are excited to welcome Peter Wilson as the new Chair of Artspace.

Artspace’s Board of Directors are excited to welcome Peter Wilson as the new Chair of Artspace. A member of Artspace’s Board since 2018, Peter brings 20 years experience across a wide range of not-for-profit board roles, working across governance, philanthropy, and advocacy. His current and former board roles span the arts, law reform and social justice, health, and education. Peter is currently a Board Director of Unharm, the Treasurer of The Women’s College within the University of Sydney, and a member of the Finance Advisory Council of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy in Australia and Papua New Guinea. He was the recipient of the 2016 Emerging Philanthropy Leadership Award from Creative Partnerships Australia and was named in the inaugural 50 LGBTI Leaders List by Deloitte in 2017.

Peter Wilson says, ‘Andrew Cameron is an outstanding leader in the arts and we are so grateful for his leadership and his and his family's generosity and unwavering support of Artspace. Artspace's Board of Directors and staff are deeply appreciative of his time and commitment to the organisation. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to build on the legacy of our organisation as Chair, and I look forward to embracing what’s ahead.’

Artspace’s Board of Directors also wish to thank Artspace’s former Chair, Andrew Cameron, who is a long-standing arts advocate for stewarding the organisation with care and generosity through a period of significant growth and renewal. Under his leadership, Artspace was able to secure an ambitious major capital redevelopment for The Gunnery, a 35-year sublease to future proof the organisation and fortify its position nationally and internationally.

Andrew Cameron stated that 'I’ve always admired Artspace’s role in the Australian arts ecology and stewarding the organisation has been one of the most rewarding achievements in my career. Artspace is now an important medium-sized arts organisation in Australia with a building infrastructure that is fit-for-purpose, enabling ambitious programming and a greater capacity to self-generate revenue and plan for the future.'

We look forward to continuing our relationship with Andrew, who is a major benefactor to Artspace. He will continue to support the organisation in a philanthropic capacity across Artspace’s expanded artistic program, including the Banner Series, the Ideas Platform, and funding the dedicated Associate Curator & Executive Assistant position.

Artspace would also like to acknowledge and thank Artspace’s Board Directors, Kathy Bail and Taloi Havini, who have also been instrumental during their tenures on the Board. We acknowledge their time, dedication, and commitment to shaping a vision for the organisation. They have supported The Gunnery transformation, and key policies such as Artspace’s Reconciliation Action Plan. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours.

Artspace Executive Director, Alexie Glass-Kantor said ‘This is an exciting next step for Artspace. I would like to sincerely thank Artspace’s Board of Directors for their ongoing collaboration and collegiality and we congratulate and welcome Peter Wilson’s new appointment. We are deeply grateful for Andrew Cameron, Kathy Bail and Taloi Havini’s exceptional work during their tenure and look forward to working with them as they continue their support and advocacy in the sector.’

With thanks to our current Board of Directors: Michael Baldwin, Daniel Boyd, Lisa Chung, Mikala Dwyer, Alexie Glass-Kantor, Amanda Love, Peter O'Connell, Leisa Sadler (Treasurer), and Peter Wilson (Chair).
