Jeff Gibson pens comical definitions that skewer falsity and malice. As a visual corollary to this textual compendium, he has also been assembling a catalogue of idiosyncratic image taxonomies derived from Google product searches. These two paths – text and image – have continually converged and diverged in his work. For his Ideas Platform project, Gibson exhibits recent image-based and text-based work, as well as a pair of videos that combine the two.
In the spirit of networked connectivity that the name Ideas Platform suggests, Gibson has also included a small selection of artists whose practices resonate with his own. Critically riffing on the visual and linguistic conventions of commodity culture or television, US artists David Robbins, Liz Magic Laser and Philip Vanderhyden join Gibson in a program of short videos.
