Yokohama-based Meiro Koizumi began his practice with experimental attempts to reproduce the immediacy of performance audiovisually. Over time, his interest in the medium of video has grown more reflexive internally and externally, his work evolving into Brechtian psychosexual melodramas and socially critical actions that, at their most advanced, construct a complex politics of public intervention, performance documentation and the staging of a work in a space while drawing in endemic nationalisms, social isolation and critiques of authorship and spectatorship that can be hilarious and tragic at the same time. For Broken Heroes, Beautiful Afternoons Koizumi will present two of his critically acclaimed recent works: Voice of a Dead Hero and Theatre Dreams Again of a Beautiful Afternoon.
